End of the Month and my Goddaughter came dancing!
Written 1/31/2024.
I’m so happy, my Goddaughter Jess came with her mom (yes, a very good friend) to dancing tonight. They could only stay for the lesson, but both had smiles on their faces while learning the basic steps.
Each week the usuals come. It’s nice to get to know each person and their dance styles. This week for me I was practicing how to telegraph what I want my partner to do. As I’m leading, it’s my job to give her instructions. It may be a push of the hand, a hand on the back or one of many kinds of moves to indicate what I want her to do. For example, we usually hold on the left (my left, her right hand). If I want to do a right-hand pass (which includes a twirl). I raise up my left hand, palm outward while stepping to the left. She will do a clockwise twirl through the slot so that we are now facing in the opposite direction.
It’s fun and challenging at the same time.
Oh, I also rode my motorcycle to work this morning. It’s finally light enough out (and if I leave late enough) to ride. The biggest challenge is getting through downtown Naperville due to the main bridge being under repair. It gets backed up and some sections are bumpy (we try to avoid bumpy). The good news is that because I bought my riding pants one size too big (compared to the size I am now), I can slide them over my regular pants. That makes it very convenient during cold weather. I’ll need to buy a pair that actually fits for warmer weather, but I’ll take what I can get.
As it’s the end of the month, there is always a lot of activity. Next week I’ll be out of town in Puerto Rico.
I’m looking forward to it. Maybe I’ll rent a motorcycle. My insurance does cover rentals within the United States.
I also outlined my retreat in April yesterday. It will be amazing!
