Special Parking and a nice ride
Written 2/18/2024.
First, I woke up early this morning to 30 degrees outside. The weather report said it would get over 40 degrees in the afternoon. The sun was pouring down and my hopes were high that I could throw my leg over my Harely and take it for a spin.
Off to church. When I arrived, there was almost no one in the parking lot. Okaay…I thought, what did I miss? It turns out that they were having just one service due to the Congregational Meeting happening directly afterwards (where the church members vote on the Pastors’ salaries and other budget items). I grabbed the booklet which had an explanation from each of our ministries, including personnel, building and grounds, go and serve, etc. There was even a picture of my son in the back on Go and Serve where a group of high schoolers, young adults, and adults travel somewhere in the United States to help with a community (could be painting a person’s house, they even put in a community play set in one town). I spent the extra time (30 minutes) reading through the booklet with a cup of coffee in hand (luckily coffee was made and ready).
Church happened, the meeting happened, I went home.
The temperature was over 40! Yay! Had lunch and eventually headed out to Cycle Gear, our local shop for all things that a person would need if they had a motorcycle. The cool part is that they have motorcycle parking right in front of the shop. I took the bike out and picked up a cover for the bike. This is for when I’m travelling and it may rain overnight or something similar. As it’s the end of the season, it was on a major sale (70% off).
From there I had mapped out a nice ride from Bolingbrook to Lemont Road south through the town of Lemont until I reached Archer Avenue west. This is a popular route as Archer goes along some nice forest preserves. Archer ends up in Lockport where you make a right to go over the big bridge (I went over 2 large bridges today, which was cool), and take a right onto route 53 to head towards home.
Currently I’m at about 35.5 hours out of the 50 hours I want to ride before calling myself “competent” for longer rides.
