Partying At The Opening Of The Democratic National Convention
Written 8/21/2024.
It was one of many parties. This was actually to raise funds for the University of Illinois’ Cancer Center.
The party was held at 167 N Green Street in Chicago, part of the Fulton Market area. It’s a beautiful building and this was in their atrium on the top floor with spectacular views of Chicago on all four sides.
The party was lovely. The people were lovely. The food was amazing.
I wanted to be in my back yard with a bunch of friends watching a fire, chatting, and drinking a beverage of choice.
I’m not a fancy party-goer. I’ve been to black tie events (I even own a tuxedo).
The events are always spectacular, but I’m just waiting to get away. The older I get, the less I like big crowds (a University of Michigan Football game is my exception).
I’ve never thought of myself as an introvert. I enjoy people. Maybe it’s because I’m working with people my whole day. I need some quiet time to decompress. Maybe it’s because I’ve made too many decisions and have decision fatigue when I get home.
Let me know how you get through these fancy events. Maybe I can use some of your tips the next time around.
